Amol is part of a team attempting to complete a gruelling 3000 mile bike Race Across America- RAAM 2015. (http://www.raceacrossamerica.org.)
This race has been organised every year since 1982. RAAM is one of the longest annual endurance events in the world. This is a race of human endurance and a huge logistical challenge as the team has to complete the course within a specified time period.

His close friends- Dr Hitendra and Mahendra Mahajan are the riders in this race and are supported by a crew of 12 members, Amol included.

They set off on the 20th June from Oceanside, CA and have to reach Annapolis on the east coast in 9 days.

In length the RAAM is comparable to the Tour de France, but the races differ to a great extent. The courses of both races have varied over the years. However, in the Race Across America, the direction has always been from the west coast to the east coast of the United States, approximately 3,000 miles (4,800 km), making it a transcontinental event. More importantly, the race has no stages, i.e., it is in principle a nonstop event from start to finish, with the fastest competitors needing slightly over a week to complete the course.

The team has qualified for the race and is participating to support an eye charity in India – Kalpataru Foundation (kalpatarufoundation.com). This charity is active on various fronts in my home state in India. The Foundation will undertake free eye surgery in tribal belts of 2 states in India – details provided on the justgiving page.
